Marc Jolivet «terrorizes» die Lyon Symphonic Orchestra
Take a professional slob, give him a baton as well as a renowned orchestra und let them perform altogether for two hours on a stage. Ready is the concept which makes Paris laugh – now already in the third season. Together with conductor Philppe Fournier Marc Jolivet, French actor and film director, has developed a new programme which gets its opulent scope through the 40 musicians of the Lyon symphonic orchestra. With only one big problem: «I guess I don’t have the faintest idea of music at all», he confesses. Sure, the elegant atmosphere of classic music is afflicted wenn the «conductor» jumps obsessed over the stage, takes regularly a big portion out of his pocket flask and stumbles drunken across the podium. Who’s wondering: The intention of «Comic Symphonic» is less concertant than more humoristic!
Marc Jolivet plays the conductor and Philippe Fournier the Comedian. Or the opposite way around? – Due to the two «rivals» it would not be easy to find out who is the boss on the stage, who decides what is going on. The extremely rebellious orchestra does not ease the tension, too; it even more complicates the actually already complete chaos. One versus 40 – comedians have no easy life. The «best audience on Earth», as Jolivet screams consciously slipper again and again into the auditorium, appreciates it. And this although he pokes fun at really everything: The EU, the globalization, tourists, Paris and even the holy French patriotism.
Of course, the musical talent of the self-styled maître in his snow-white tail-coat is expandable. After the bloodcurdling misuse of a violin, audience and actor – both frightened similarly – come to the conclusion Marc’s strengths are surely no string instruments. And also no brass instruments how the way-out trompete solo proves: The squealing causes faces contorted in pain and fainting spells even within the orchestra. For Jolivet remains the megaphone – declaredly extravagant. Any port in a storm – and the frustrated comedian discovers his weakness for rap.
