«Fame» catapults spectators out of the theatre chairs

Grandios: Das Pariser «Fame»-Ensemble. | Marvellous: The Parisian «Fame» ensemble. It is a well-known secret that sometimes the distance between France and the USA is even bigger than the geographic one. That 30 years have to pass by to bring a big US musical like «Fame» for the first time ever to Paris is supposed to be characteristic.

To stand one time at the top, to see the name in huge, flashing letters, to be a star, assailed by fans, be loved, celebrated – who does not dream of this experience? «Fame» itself gets doubtlessly success and popularity. It is film, TV series and since 1998 musical, too. And in this way it became the prime example of its own story. «Fame» narrates the exhausting way to famousness, the learning years predefined by strict teachers, gruelling trainings, the first love and intrigues.

Herausragend: Julie Victor alias Carmen. | High position: Julie Victor alias Carmen. That fame requires a lot of work, sweat und assertiveness applies also for the young actors at the Théâtre Comédia. The Parisian staging needs no accessoires at the background, it has artists that create an extraordinary collective work in common. In one stage setting only Carmen (Julie Victor), Tyrone (Jean-Michel Vaubien), Joe (Dan Menasche), Grace (Chloé Pimont) and their classmates of the New York School of Performing Arts whirl for the audiences' favourableness. Each song is sung and played live – also in due to the musical director if this evening, Samuel Sené, and his band.

It is no surprise that the temperament of «Fame» on stage opens out finally into standing ovations at the auditorium. The jubilations are frolic than even the author of this text has never experienced it before in Paris. The addition is obligatory: The theme song sounds again through the theatre. And by the enthousiastic audience it spills out in a many-voiced humming into the boulevard de Strasbourg.
